The Karma Group is an award-winning international travel and lifestyle brand offering extraordinary members experiences and exclusive curated entertainment in the world’s most beautiful locations. From soulful spas to happening beach parties, historic hotels to design resorts, Karma Group is created for five-star travellers who understand that reaching their destination is only the start of their journey. Here Charlotte Spence guides us through the sought-after offering and gives us an insider's view of what Mountain Club members can expect.
- What does the perfect day look like in Karma-mode for you? We hear you are Sydney-based?
Whilst I’m in Sydney at the moment, I’ll soon be heading overseas to host some exciting members’ events across the globe, so my perfect day can look pretty different depending on where I am! Next weekend, I’ll be hosting one of our beloved ‘Saints and Sinners’ retreats in Provence, so I’d say these days will be pretty close to perfection for me! We’ll start our mornings at our private Karma Estate with a Provençal breakfast and an invigorating fitness session, before taking a mindful walk into the village for a classically French lunch in the square. After this, it’s an afternoon spent hopping around the wineries, before a tipsy game of boules and a fine dining experience as the sun sets over the mountains, before we do it all again the next day. Truly the perfect day!
- Tell us about the Karma Group and what it can mean for Mountain Club members. We know there is a lot and we are here for it. Tell us all!
There really are so many treats in store, and we are looking forward to sharing them with the Mountain Club community. We are excited to offer members 20% off so many of our member-only and public resorts, spanning everywhere from Bali to Tuscany, Vietnam to Egypt and beyond! We are also looking forward to extending invitations to Mountain Club members to some of our member events and experiences across the globe, whilst also collaborating with Mountain Club on some fun for both our member bases too, so watch this space…
- What’s in the Karma pipeline for the second half of 2024? We’d love to hear about your key business plans and updates.
For us, we’re committed to expanding both our member experiences and destinations, whilst forging exciting new partnerships worldwide. So that means more curated events and experiences for our members all over the world, as well as adding more properties to our portfolio. Just last week we announced new acquisitions in Cambodia and the Maldives, with more in the pipeline, so we are looking forward to showing our members (and yours!) more and more corners of the world.
- It’s not just hotels and clubs that the Karma Group opens up for Mountain Club members, but also the soulful spas and beach parties which sound epic. What have your highlights and learnings been so far with this business model?
Our motto is ‘we create experiences’ and this is an ethos we absolutely live by. We go beyond your usual hotel or members club by intertwining the two, and offering members the opportunity to connect through out-of-the-box adventures and travel opportunities, whilst also connecting in their home cities through our regular meet-ups. We call ourselves ‘luxury rebels’ and personally, that is an identity I can definitely resonate with! I think for me, it has been most encouraging and rewarding to witness just how much people actually want to connect with others and live life to the fullest, wherever they are in the world. There’s nothing I love more than one of our long lunches turning into an all-night dance party, or watching members become close friends, business partners or mentors. It is just so validating to witness the way connections create opportunities for joy and fulfillment, in every sphere of life and part of the world.
- What’s your favourite Karma hotel and event that you would recommend to Mountain Club members visiting any of the Karma locations? We know this will be a tricky one to call!
That is truly like asking someone to choose their favourite child - I can’t possibly pick! It really depends on what you’re looking for. Karma Kandara perched on the cliff tops of Uluwatu in Bali is absolutely breathtaking, and a must-visit for all Aussies and New Zealanders - it’s where I find myself spending at least a week a month at the moment (best ‘office’ ever!) Tuscany and Malaga are also hard to pass up this time of year, and the culture of our Indian resorts is also a must for the bucket list. We have around 40 curated experiences at all of our resorts each year, so there is always a perfect itinerary waiting for our members. Next on my hit list though is our riverboat on the Nile - the idea of cruising between the pyramids for a week is pretty mind blowing!
